Computer and Skill Training Centre

SRVC had been offering training to visually challenged candidates at the centre near South Railway Station Kochi since 2012 to 2016. A total of more than 15 batches (approx 10 students each batch) has been trained including the members who were earlier trained at the Resource Centre for the visually challenged at the Infopark premises, Kakkanad Kochi (from Sept 2008 to June 2012). The goal has been to train and empower the community by exposing them to the world of computers and prepare them for jobs in various fields. About 65% of students have been successfully employed from each batch. The 8 to 10 month course imparts orientation and use of computers (MS office/ internet etc) and have been looking at making the candidates job-ready for any desk-based roles at call centres, tele-marketing posts etc. The latest update being from 2016, the training centre has been stopped as most of the visually challenged persons have been getting basic training from the blind schools now. The focus has been primarily to run the telesales centre which is a live job centre for the community which has been successfully functioning with a 20 seater telesales centre from Aug 2016 to date. Achievements : We have been able to train and secure employment for many visually challenged in reputed organizations like Wipro, Cisco, CTS, Taj, Eastern Group, Popular Automobiles, Muthoot, Choice School, Sunrise Hospital, Allianz Insurance, Bank of India, Le Meridien Hotel Kochi, Gateway Hotel Kochi and several marketing cos etc.

ORCHESTRA BY THE VISUALLY CHALLENGED

SRVC has brought together talented musicians from across the state and formed "Heart2Heart", an orchestra exclusively by the visually challenged. The Band has played at more than 400+ shows. the three-piece band is working in Le Meridian hotel and Aster Medcity. The ‘Heart 2 Heart’ orchestra performed in shows at Tuticorin. Chennai, Thrissur, Kochi (add link to the H2H page) Achievements: The 'Heart2Heart' orchestra has performed over 400 shows with five held overseas. All proceeds from the shows are directed entirely to the artists. They have shared stages with many celebrities who have even performed with the orchestra. By providing a platform and offering financial assistance to produce music for a film, a visually challenged music composer has today become a recognized Music Director in the Film Industry.

3-Piece Band

SRVC was successful in getting the 3-piece band consisting Visually challenged members playing flute, guitar & tabla employed with Hotel Le Meridien, Cochin as the restaurant Band in the evenings. They also play at the Aster Medicity Hospital , kcohi as a lobby band in the mornings. Achievements: The trio has produced an instrumental album which is promoted as corporate handouts.

Telesales Centre

Envision Trust telesales centre, which was setup as the first exclusive project in Kerala only involving the visually challenged. The aim of this project is to offer employment opportunities for trained VC youth based on their communication skills, Computer Skills. Currently Envision Trust is working with Asianet broadband and providing employment for 18 visually challenged employees.

Blind Football

SRVC started the first Blind Football team from Kerala in 2013 and also help is setting up the first Indian National Blind Football team in the same year, which has been participating at various International Tournaments. SRVC helped promote the setting up of a separate entity called ‘Indian Blind Football Federation’(IBFF) with the support of SRVC to focus more on blind football. IBFF is affiliated in Indian blind sports association (IBSA), Paralympics committee of Indian (PCI) and the All India Football Federation (AIFF). Also helped setup the first Para Sport Academy and vocational skills training centre in Kochi since Sept'17, to develop the best blind football talents in the country. Achievements: Awareness on other Blind sports like athletics, power lifting etc and SRVC has been supporting athletes to represent themselves at the national level. Kerala Blind Football team formed for encouraging sports amongst the sector, as a debutant, secured the Runners up position at the National Blind 5-a-side Football championships held at Delhi in Jan'15 and earlier in May'13. Kerala blind football team won the national tournament’17 and south west zonal tournament’18. Sunil J Mathew, Secretary of SRVC & Coach has been nominated to the International Blind Football committee Blind Football Sub Committee (2018-21) as Asia representative for IT & Communications.

Foot reflexology

SRVC has been supporting training opportunities for foot reflexology as the visually challenged have a huge scope in this field. Achievements: ‘Healing Touch Reflexology’ has been developed, branded and grown as a commercial enterprise run and operated successfully by Dr C A Ansar, a Visually Challenged therapist and has been able to provide employment to many more in his establishment.

Other activities

SRVC celebrates all special days for the visually challenged community. Like white cane day, world disability day, braille day, Helen Keller day etc.
